Both this weekend and last weekend, I saw some trees whose branches looked like antlers. What came to mind was that they must be sumac. It was only later that it occurred to me that there is a kind of sumac called staghorn sumac. It was just there in my mind that antlers = sumac, without any thought of staghorn.
Below is a photo of the trees I suspect of being sumac, taken at Peebles Island, near the crossroads near the beginning of the trail. I was going to take a picture of the tops of the trees, because that's where they look most like antlers, but then when I moved my camera and saw the view with the horizon, with forest below sky, I liked the look of that better than the look of the photo with just branches and sky.
